Yeom Jihee
Yeom Jihee fiercely explores the boundaries between reality and fantasy, and life and death, through black-and-white photo collages from the period before and after World War II. Through images with historical context, the artist evokes a peculiar sublime beauty where anxiety and hope coexist, paradoxically illuminating the existential meaning of life through death. By presenting her works as an installation that directs theatrical spaces, the artist expands the flatness of painting into three-dimensional objects, allowing viewers to discover their own narratives between reality and fiction. This is a "constructive technique" that goes beyond simple "painterly effects" or the arrangement of decorative symbols, densely condensing a literary exploration of personal experiences, dreams, and the depths of human existence. This visual structure possesses a powerful force that proposes a fantastic world beyond solid reality, enabling us to view the stage of life from atop. to survey the stage of life ourselves.
